Den Bundesverband der Deutschen Industrie ( BDI ), Federation of German Industries e. V. er den førende organisation for tysk industri og industrirelaterede tjenesteudbydere. Det repræsenterer 39 brancheorganisationer og mere end 100.000 virksomheder med omkring 8 millioner ansatte. Medlemskab er frivilligt. I alt 15 statlige repræsentationer repræsenterer økonomiens interesser på regionalt niveau. BDI's hovedkvarter er i Haus der Deutschen Wirtschaft (hus for den tyske økonomi) i Berlin ; Mellem 1950 og 1999 var dette i House of German Industry i Köln. Derudover har BDI andre kontorer i udlandet og er derfor repræsenteret internationalt. Formand for BDI er siden 1. januar 2021 Siegfried Russwurm .
Som paraplyorganisation er føderationen ansvarlig for opfattelsen og promoveringen af alle bekymringer inden for industrier kombineret i regi af BDI. Dette giver dog ikke ret til at repræsentere sociale problemer. Denne funktion er forbeholdt Forbundet for tyske arbejdsgiverforeninger (BDA). BDI-statutten begrænser kredsen af medlemmer til førende industriforeninger og arbejdsgrupper (§ 4, stk. 2). Som et resultat kan enkeltpersoner eller virksomhedsnetværk ikke få medlemskab. Fra et politisk videnskabeligt synspunkt er BDI blevet beskrevet som en interessegruppe i foreningssektorerne "Økonomi og arbejdskraft" såvel som "en investortopforening inden for industri og erhvervssammenslutninger ". Som en advokatgruppe i branchen driver den førende forening interesseartikulation efter processen med at danne sig en mening inden for foreningen. BDI lobbyer globalt i betydningen industrielt aktive virksomheder og er i "alle økonomiske relevante lovgivningsmæssige processer hørt."
